The Anton Lesser Junkie Quick Fix Page

Totally Extravagent TV Gallery Part 1: 1981-1985

Most of these are thumbnails; if in doubt, click.

From the 1981 BBC Shakespeare Troilus and Cressida, courtesy of the Ambrose Video website; on the right, from the accompanying text: Suzanne Burden as Cressida; Lesser as Troilus.

Aaaaand no prizes for guessing what I did last weekend ... (mental note: get out more often)

The 1982 BBC Shakespeare production of King Lear, from the accompanying text: Lesser as Edgar, Norman Rodway as blinded Gloucester. On the right: more canvas ... Lesser as Edgar, Michael Holdern as Lear, Brenda Blethyn as Cordelia, and John Shrapnel as Kent. (Added incentive: this production also featured an unexpectedly dishy Michael Kitchen as Edmund.)

OK, so I gave way at last ... screen-grabs. The production team on this version of King Lear deliberately desaturated the print to give a chilly and washed-out effect to the whole sordid mess. It's worked well, but it means drained-looking screen grabs as well. Bear up.

Getting bullied fairly enthusiastically in the 1983 Good and Bad at Games (hint: he was bad at them). The top row are from Anita; the rest are from PJ's screen-grab paradise.

Sakharov - as Valery Chalidze. Look at that haunted Eastern-Euro thing; he does it so well.

Oh Marie - thanks so much for this contribution - Lesser as Willy Price in Anna of the Five Towns, 1985.

As the robber with the abominably bogus moustache in Monsignor Quixote [note: it's supposed to look fake; much amusing business with bogus moustache]
